AGENCY EXECUTIVES OF THE DECADE

Jeff Goodby and Rich Silverstein, co-chairmen and creative directors of Goodby, Silverstein & Partners, have been setting creative standards since they opened their award-winning San Francisco agency in 1983. Instead of taking the money and running after a holding-company buyout, Goodby and Silverstein remained front and center after their 1992 sale to Omnicom Group. Over the past 10 years, the pair, who were inducted into The One Club’s Hall of Fame in 2004, have steered the shop to steady growth, recruited and rewarded talent with key leadership roles, and successfully navigated the often bumpy transition to the digital era. While Goodby, 58, and Silverstein, 60, readily admit they couldn’t be more different in personality or management style, their common passion has always been the work. “I’ve heard us referred to as the dysfunctional dad and the crazy uncle,” Goodby said in an Adweek interview in 2005. Dysfunctional or crazy, the partnership continues to serve as an inspiration to creatives and agency leaders alike. â€”Eleftheria Parpis
